HCC Subscriber Database
Client: Health Care Communications
Category: Software Engineering > Microsoft Access 97/2000
Overview:
Strategic Health Care Marketing is a monthly newsletter publication put out by Health
Care Communications (HCC). Realizing a need to upgrade their existing DOS based
subscriber data record keeping system, HCC asked a private consultant to build a
custom Access95 database. When the consultant left the project unfinished, HCC was
referred to C-Spine Productions to complete the database upgrade.
The Problem:
HCC needed a database that was able to accept individual customer mailing and contact
information, as well as subscription specific data such as subscription length and
payment dates. A system for the creation of billing invoices and renewal notices was
the critical output requirement. The database also had to have the ability to generate
numerous types of mailing lists.
The solution:
Utilizing Microsoft's Access97, C-Spine reconfigured the existing Access95 database to
accomplish a number of the clients needs.
- Existing data tables were restructured to help eliminate redundant record
keeping, as well as make them fully scaleable for easy future upgrades.
- A full set of data entry forms were created to allow for clean and easy data
entry.
- Administration functionality was added to help separate current, past and
special subscribers records from one another.
- A fully functional invoice and renewal notice process was developed to
automatically screen out those subscribers requiring billing invoices and renewal
notices.
The Result:
The Subscriber database upgrade has helped Health Care Communications more effectively
track their subscribers, and was upgraded again in 1999 with the addition of a second
newsletter. The database system continues to be used by HCC to this day.
