Holy freaking cow! Spud has advanced to the final round of Small Press Idol 2008! With a final vote tally of 652 Votes and 117 supportive voters, we finished 2nd of the 11 round three projects, just 39 votes shy of first place Warpath.
Personally, I’m blown away. I never expected to have our loyal family, friends and fans come out and throw their support behind us like this. The support starts at home with my wife, who is pulling hardest of anyone for me, which makes everything just that much better and makes me want to work as hard as I can to win. It’s truly been unbelievable. And now, a little unnerving as Mark and I are on the hook for a 12 page #0 issue.
In subsequent judges veto discussions, third place finisher In-Flight Service was removed from the top three giving Shamrock:Origins a #0 spot. I’ve never been a fan of the judges veto part of the contest and I truly feel for the IFS team for having won a #0 spot in the popular vote and now moved to a MVA cover spot instead. They still get a cover and their story in a print anthology, but they’re ability to win the contest is now gone. Sorry guys. Regardless, Mark and I thank team IFS for their support throughout the contest and wish them the very best down the road.
Now, we have to get our game face on again. We’re facing two very strong stories in this last round. Mark and I are already knee deep in our final nine pages and I expect to be busy as all get out working on our #0 book and most of all our round four marketing campaign. I know our competition would LOVE to get a peak at what we have in store, but they’ll just have to wait like everyone else.
In the meantime, Digg our blog posts, join our coloring contest to win cash prizes and get ready for the Spud #0 pre-sale period starting on my very one birthday of July 15th!
